So last night we got to be a part of an awesome event. The Warren Center of Dallas helps children with developmental problems and they host The Art and Music Gala annually to raise money to keep helping these special kids. The gala was held at the Southside Ballroom in Dallas and featured an Alice in Wonderland theme. We opened the show with one of our newest songs, "Blindside." We were paired with a fantastic artist who painted a beautiful picture inspired by the song. His name is Jonathan Ramirez and he is a local Dallas artist specializing in sculpture, painting, multimedia art, organic media, and photography. The painting and song are tired together by our front-man KC's daughter, Kiri, who received speech therapy from the Warren Center when she was two years old. When KC was first writing this song on his guitar at home, Kiri was next to him playing with her legos. When he finished the song, she looked up and said, "I like that one daddy!"
The event also featured highly accomplished artists Ryan Berg, Jamar Jones, Vivian Green, and The Jordan Kahn Orchestra. It was a true honor and a humbling experience to share the stage with these great artists. I got to spend a little time with Mr Jones backstage and he was a very down-to-earth, nice guy. He said he was honored to share the stage with us and I was like "No way man, it's the other way around! We're honored to be able to do this with such accomplished artists as you and Vivian!" He then said "We're all the same, we use the same chords and notes." I replied, "Yeah but you've arranged those notes in ways that got you on the Oscars and nominated for a Grammy, we're not at that level yet!" We laughed and talked some more, and I was inspired work even harder to be the musician that he perceived me to be.
The event was a huge success for the Warren Center, at least it appeared that way to me. I don't know the exact amount that they raised or if it met and exceeded their goal. However, I do know that just one part of the auction raised $30,000. The goal of this particular auction was to raise $1,000 per child for 10 children. Before the auction even started, 2 people pledged $10,000 each. So, before the auction even started, they already had doubled the goal amount.
All said, it was a really awesome experience and is still sort of surreal. Oh and by the way, look forward to the release of "Blindside" as a single!

We have a couple of benefit shows on the calendar coming up.
On August 11th, we will be playing on the rooftop at Wits End in Deep Ellum. This is a benefit to help support custom art and to raise money for Galax-T's new work shop. This show will have artwork for sell, a raffle for custom art giveaways, and gift certificates for their shirt prints. Also rock n' roll trivia! This is a good show to support the local artist scene. And there's no cover, well, before 10 pm. After 10 o' clock there will be a cover charge.
On September 15th, is another show that we will playing for a good cause. It will be a Green Elephant in Lower Greenville, and we will raising money to build shelters for homeless children. This is a great music festival, a great cause to be a part of. To learn more about this cause and where to buy tickets click here.
